4/4/2023 0 Comments The weekend altered faceHe has not confirmed or denied these claims, though he told Variety: “The significance of the entire head bandages is reflecting on the absurd culture of Hollywood celebrity and people manipulating themselves for superficial reasons to please and be validated.”īut, while Abel Tesfaye is well-placed to comment on the tribulations of fame, his commentary on tweakment culture feels as though it misses the mark. Fans have speculated that later stages of his narrative were a dig specifically at the aesthetic choices of his supermodel ex-partner Bella Hadid, along with the many other women who have chosen to opt for aesthetic procedures to alter their appearance. The same week, Variety published an interview revealing the intentions behind The Weeknd's actions. What was the meaning behind The Weeknd’s stunt? Many anticipated another appearance from post-procedure The Weeknd - but as the lights rose, there was ‘the old’ Tesfaye, and all became clear for those still in doubt. For one year, all of his public appearances would involve some form of bandages, bruises, blood or prosthetics - visual implications that he was undergoing a series of traumas, and was in the process of dramatically reconstructing his face.Ī post shared by The Weeknd extended stunt came to a boiling point this Sunday, during the singer's long-awaited performance at the Super Bowl half-time show. An achingly edgy trip-hop producer, he was widely regarded, quite simply, as the nonchalant soundtrack to our collective Tumblr scrolling.īut ten years later - with a whole load of fame, 28.8 million Instagram followers and many a magazine cover under his belt - Tesfaye embarked on a year-long stunt. We barely knew what Canadian singer The Weeknd looked like back in 2011 when he released his first ever mixtape, House of Balloons, as a free download. Why did The Weeknd get fake plastic surgery? Some fans have been left confused about the motivation behind his ‘performance art’ - and to be honest, I’m with them. Only his backing dancers were wrapped in head bandages (a move which felt more of a creative approach to COVID face covering requirements, than an extension of Tesfaye’s ‘narrative’). That he could re-emerge from an aesthetician’s office with a face inspired by the facial proportions of Jocelyn Wildenstein, or Kylie Jenner, or even his ex-girlfriend, supermodel Bella Hadid.īut at The Weeknd’s Super Bowl half-time performance, his appearance reverted back to its pre-2020 normalcy. Plus, considering the near-satirical hellscape that was 2020, it wasn’t entirely outside of the realms of possibility that Abel Tesfaye, AKA The Weeknd, could reinvent his bone structure. The prosthetics were pretty impressive, after all. A zig-zag silhouette from temple to pointed cheekbone to jaw. Pillowy lips pouting in a perfect circle. Eyelids strained tightly against his eyeballs. His curiously sloped eyebrows, defying gravity.

4/4/2023 0 Comments Iphoto for mac os sierraAs certain lucky-duck customers already know, it’s possible to take your entire photo collection in your pocket-and then display it on the screen of the iPod Photo (the first color iPod). iPhoto uses this folder for temporary storage of the files it creates while turning your pictures into a slideshow on DVD, as described in Chapter 12. This file-naming convention is strictly for iPhoto’s internal use you never see these numeric file names within iPhoto. This is because the photo bears its original file name, but the Data files are given a numeric sequence-234, 235, and so on-based on the order in which they were imported. You might notice that the two Data files (38 and 38.attr, for example) don’t correspond to the names of the JPEG photo files themselves (IMG_0023, for example). (To find your Home folder, begin in the Finder and choose Go → Home.) If the short name you use to log into Mac OS X is mozart, the full path to your iPhoto Library folder from the main hard drive window would be Macintosh HD → Users → mozart → Pictures → iPhoto Library. IPhoto stores its copies of your pictures in a special folder called iPhoto Library, which you can find in your Home → Pictures folder. In addition, iPhoto creates a separate thumbnail version of each picture, consuming about another 10 K to 20 K per photo. In other words, importing 1 GB of photos requires an additional 1 GB of disk space, because you’ll end up with two copies of each file: the original, and iPhoto’s copy of the photo. As a result, transferring photos from your hard drive into iPhoto more than doubles the amount of disk space they take up. When you import from the hard drive, iPhoto leaves the originals in whichever folders they’re in. In the iMovie window, click File and then Import from Camera. When you import from a camera, iPhoto leaves the photos right where they are on its memory card (unless you use the “Erase” option).iMovie will be listed as an icon in the Applications window. Open the iMovie software from the Dock or on the Finder Bar, choose Go and then Applications.Note: If the iPhoto® software automatically starts, close it. However, to import high-definition video such as AVCHD, iMovie '08 or newer is required. To import standard-definition video, iMovie '07 or newer is required.Refer to the operating instructions of your camera for detailed information. Depending on the connection type and capabilities of your camera, the transfer procedure may vary. Also, you can convert AVCHD 60p video to MP4 format using Media Converter software. If you've already recorded videos in 60p, you can transfer the video directly to the hard drive of your Mac, and then burn it to a disc to be viewed on a different computer or television. To be able to edit your HD video in iMovie, we suggest you set your camcorder to record in AVCHD 60i or AVCHD 24i or MP4. Important: The iMovie software does not support AVCHD 60p video. Use the following procedure to import video into the iMovie software: Note: Not all features are available in all versions of the iMovie software. For all the features available with the iMovie software, visit the Apple website. With the new People Finder feature, iMovie makes it easy to find video that includes certain people. You can create movie trailers from various templates, edit audio and add special effects. With the iMovie software you can easily import, browse, and edit your video.
4/3/2023 0 Comments Nisus writer pro forumWeed out these weaknesses while drafting the novel. Novice novelists make a number of common mistakes. It is better to create a less mistake-riddled work given the high rate of rejection by agents. For novelists, the challenge exceeds composing well-written content. Professional writers of all stripes will agree that writing is both easy and hard. If you have the time, read some books about improving business writing. Put yourself in your recipient’s place, and consider whether what they will receive is what you wanted to convey. If your business writing is not as clear as it should be, then focus on how to improve it. When appropriate, ask for feedback from colleagues, especially if you are writing a proposal, report, or an important memo. Readers pay less attention to verbose content. Read your writing objectively, and remove unnecessary words and content. Write the content quickly, and edit it later. Writing that is either stuffy or overly casual hits the wrong tone. Industry-specific jargon and acronyms may be necessary sometimes, but when used frequently they indicate laziness and bore the reader. Use stronger action verbs, and remove prepositions for more direct language.Īvoid Acronyms and Jargon, Where Possible Grandiose language reflects verbosity, not intelligence. You will capture the attention of busy professionals by giving them a brief summary of the contents in the opening of your message.Įach word should matter. Summarize your point in the beginning regardless of whether you write a memo, proposal, or an email. Consider what your reader (or readers) should think or know after receiving what you sent. People who think as they write do not convey their thoughts clearly. Do not write prematurely think first about what you want to communicate. Your communications need to be engaging and plain-spoken, so that your style of composition does not burden busy people. See below for some tips to get you started. It is not frivolous or tiresome indeed, communicating effectively will benefit your career. Even if you are a multi-tasking, frequently-under-stress executive, making time for better business writing is worth it. But that may be me having used Mellel more than Nisus Writer. There is value in writing well. I personally prefer Mellel when it comes to working with references – I think the integration between Mellel and Bookends is more tight and more bi-directional. Tomalmy recommends Nisus Writer Pro, which I agree, is also a great product. I was able to adopt it to Oscola (Oxford) with no hassle. I think Bookends support the major US reference styles out of the box. I’ve had a couple of questions and Jon from Sonny Software was exceptionally responsive on both occasions. No flaws, no hassle, just writing.Īlso the support from Bookends is excellent. I finished a (second) master’s degree about a year ago and used Mellel / Bookends for all submissions in the later half. Very tight integration with keyboard shortcuts flying from one app to the other, making it exceptionally expedient to insert references on the go without interrupting one’s workflow. I use Mellel and Bookends together, and that combination works really well. Zotero is an open source reference manager, so far so good except for the unattractive interface. I like the real-time synchrony function of MS Word but it crashes very often. Or you can comment one of them.īy the way, I currently use MS Word plus Zotero. So, I would like to hear your voice about these two softwares if you are using them by chance. But I haven’t found any specific topic that talks about this. I also noticed that this reference manager had a close connection with a word processor, called Mellel. I also have a custom field ‘Location’ that tells me where my paper copy is, and would want to preserve that too. I would be looking to preserve attachments, as I have ~1800 refs. Has anyone made this switch? The interwebs say it can be done using an EndNote exporter, then importing that into Bookends. Just to be thorough, I’m looking into Zotero. Bookends to Zotero? Software Sonny Software just hit me up for $40 to get upgrades for Bookends for 2 years. 4/3/2023 0 Comments Song sergeant for windowsIrvine first heard it sung by Seamus Gill of Canberra, a Donegal man who has lived most of his life in Australia. was about five feet below the window, but we had to barricade those windows. To get you to pay attention to a product you use every day – and pay more than you usually would – they’re injecting some fun. To take on the giant in the room, the $US60 billion ($95 billion) global behemoth Colgate-Palmolive, they want to corner the everyday toothpaste market, build on their successful teeth whitening business and develop more products for professional dentists. It will take unbelievable products and a great brand to be able to change that. Everybody is making subconscious decisions no one knows what toothpaste they are actually using. It’s now about taking that next step forward. “I know we started with teeth whitening and the aesthetic side. And we really believe we can do that,” Tomic says. “It’s about globally becoming the biggest oral care company that exists. With chutzpah not uncommon among Young Rich Listers, Tomic and Mirkovic are chasing a lofty ambition. “How can we make it so exciting that we know that when they taste this, they’re going to want to brush their teeth, they’re going to consciously brush their teeth for two minutes a day?” “The market is 7 billion people, and so we said let’s build the best formula we can and make that formula so exciting to use and solve the problem of people who are currently brushing their teeth for only one minute,” Tomic, 29, says. The pair plan to expand into other retailers later this year as a part of a strategy to double revenue over the next 12 months. They’ve cut a deal with supermarket giant Coles, which started selling their Hi by Hismile toothpaste range in October. Nik Mirkovic and Alex Tomic want Hismile to be the biggest oral care company on the planet. They plan to do it by launching colourful pump-packs offering half the product of a regular tube and retailing it for $13 a pop, which is roughly four times the price of an on-special Colgate paste. The Gold Coast entrepreneurs, who return to the Young Rich List this year worth an estimated $125 million each, are shaking up a category most consumers pay the least attention to: toothpaste. They hope to sell so much of it that it’ll underpin a new wave of wealth creation. Young Rich Listers Nik Mirkovic and Alex Tomic may have found this generation’s new “smashed avocado”. There were several instances where I wanted to recruit or swallow a specific enemy to utilize their power set, but my AI teammates would get far too overzealous and go straight for the kill. There's one issue I had with friends and that's that the AI isn't always cooperative. It's not overt hand-holding, but it is a good way to encourage players to try out as many powers and partners as they're offered. Some secret doors will contain a specific enemy or stages will start out with a specific batch of foes to indicate what players will need to proceed forward. In fact, Star Allies' design is often generous in pointing out which specific abilties Kirby needs to either have at his side or absorb himself. This not only makes boss battles easier, but most times these combinations are used to solve specific puzzles. Weapons like Bonkers' mallet or the Kirby sword power can be buffed up by elemental enemies. It becomes more interesting as certain powers can be mixed together to create more powerful abilities. Almost any enemy can be turned into a friend and part of the challenge in this game is finding a team of four that works. The hook for Star Allies is the ability to make friends, creating a party of up to four characters. It's fun to experiment with different powers, like Kirby's old-school sword and parasol, but it's even cooler to play around with more recent abilities, like the ESP ability from Kirby: Planet Robobot.īut while Kirby is probably more than capable of flying solo, that's not the point of what this game is. The variety in abilities has always been a highlight of this series and Star Allies is no exception. Many powers from Kirby's previous efforts make their return, as do a handful of new abilities. Kirby can flutter jump, swallow baddies, and steal powers from select foes. Nonetheless, Kirby is the right puffball to set things right.Īnyone with even a remote familiarity with Kirby games should know exactly what to expect. So waking up to see dark hearts raining down and corrupting the world's denizens isn't entirely treading new ground. Kirby has seen a lot of weirdness hit Dream Land over the past three decades. It included the city-state of the Republic of Ragusa which has been proposed as the setting, and which is today known as Dubrovnik, Croatia. Illyria was an ancient region of the Western Balkans whose coast (the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea which is the only part of ancient Illyria which is relevant to the play) covered (from north to south) the coasts of modern-day Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania. Illyria, the exotic setting of Twelfth Night, is important to the play's romantic atmosphere. Malvolio swears revenge on his tormentors and stalks off, but Orsino sends Fabian to placate him. The play ends in a declaration of marriage between Duke Orsino and Viola, and it is learned that Sir Toby has married Maria. At this point, Viola reveals her identity and is reunited with her twin brother. Finally, when 'Cesario' and Sebastian appear in the presence of both Olivia and Orsino, there is more wonder and confusion at their physical similarity. Taking Sebastian for 'Cesario', Olivia asks him to marry her, and they are secretly married in a church. Sebastian's appearance adds the confusion of mistaken identities to the comedy. Meanwhile, Viola's twin, Sebastian, has been rescued by Antonio, a sea captain who previously fought against Orsino, yet who accompanies Sebastian to Illyria, despite the danger, because of his admiration for Sebastian. Feste visits him to mock his insanity, both disguised as a priest and as himself. Pretending that Malvolio is insane, they lock him up in a dark chamber. Olivia is shocked by the changes in Malvolio and agreeing that he seems mad, leaves him to be cared for by his tormentors. He starts acting out the contents of the letter to show Olivia his positive response. Malvolio finds the letter and reacts in surprised delight. It asks Malvolio to wear yellow stockings cross-gartered-a colour and fashion that Olivia actually hates-to be rude to the rest of the servants, and to smile constantly in the presence of Olivia. They convince Malvolio that Olivia is secretly in love with him by planting a love letter, written by Maria in Olivia's handwriting. Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Maria plan revenge on Malvolio. Malvolio and Sir Toby (from William Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night', Act II, scene iii), George Clint (c.1833) In the meantime, Viola has fallen in love with Duke Orsino, creating a love triangle: Viola loves Duke Orsino, Duke Orsino loves Olivia, and Olivia loves Viola disguised as Cesario. Olivia, however, falls in love with 'Cesario', setting her at odds with her professed duty. Duke Orsino then uses 'Cesario' as an intermediary to profess his passionate love before Olivia. She refuses to see entertainments, be in the company of men, or accept love or marriage proposals from anyone, the Duke included, until seven years have passed. Duke Orsino has convinced himself that he is in love with Olivia, who is mourning the recent death of her brother. She has lost contact with her twin brother, Sebastian, whom she believes to be drowned, and with the aid of the Captain, she disguises herself as a young man under the name Cesario and enters the service of Duke Orsino. Viola is shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria and she comes ashore with the help of a Captain. The play was not published until its inclusion in the 1623 First Folio.Ī depiction of Olivia by Edmund Leighton from The Graphic Gallery of Shakespeare's Heroines The first documented public performance was on 2 February 1602, at Candlemas, the formal end of Christmastide in the year's calendar. The play expanded on the musical interludes and riotous disorder expected of the occasion, with plot elements drawn from the short story "Of Apollonius and Silla" by Barnabe Rich, based on a story by Matteo Bandello. Upon meeting Viola, Countess Olivia falls in love with her thinking she is a man. Viola (who is disguised as Cesario) falls in love with the Duke Orsino, who in turn is in love with Countess Olivia. The play centres on the twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck. Twelfth Night, or What You Will is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1601–1602 as a Twelfth Night's entertainment for the close of the Christmas season.
